Booming Influx of American Tourists Expected in Europe this Summer
The number of Americans traveling to Europe is expected to surge this summer, increasing by 34 percent over last year with Athens among the Top 10 destinations, according to the latest data released by insurance providers Allianz Partners.
Based on the annual Top 10 Summer European Destinations survey, Athens ranked ninth on the list dropping from seventh spot last year.
Topping the list of destinations for American travelers this year again is London with nearly double the bookings of Paris in second place, and Dublin. All three will be hosting major international sports and music events this year.
Next on the list in fourth spot is Edinburgh, followed by Rome, Amsterdam, Reykjavík, Barcelona, Athens, and Nice.
The report analyzed over 6 million five- to eight-day itineraries for roundtrip flights departing from airports in the US between May 24 and September 3, 2024.
“Following the pandemic, Europe has been a top summer destination for Americans,” said Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners USA.
“Since transcontinental travel typically requires a more substantial budget to cover the flights, hotels and tours that combine for a memorable trip, the right travel insurance plan becomes even more valuable to protect against covered losses resulting from trip cancellations, interruptions, delays and medical emergencies that are sometimes an unexpected byproduct of vacation planning,” he said.
