The new lodging marks an important addition for Woodland Park’s economic development. The first cement pour was estimated at 120-cublic yards.

We look forward to welcoming even more visitors to stay here in our mountain community and enjoy all that we have to offer as they are vacationing in the Pikes Peak Region.”
— Neil Levy, Mayor of Woodland Park

WOODLAND PARK, COLORADO, UNITED STATES, October 25, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Travelers planning to stay in the Woodland Park, Colorado area will have a new choice of hotels in Fall 2018. The first initial pour of 120-cubic yards of cement occurred today at 721 US HWY 24 West (next to the Woodland Country Lodge).

Recently, an official groundbreaking ceremony for the new 62-room Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndam, was held by the hotel’s management team and attended by Woodland Park community leaders, including Mayor Neil Levy, and members of the public.

The three-story Microtel Inn & Suites, sister property to the Woodland Country Lodge and sharing the same management team, will be the first new hotel in Woodland Park in 20 years. Other key community members who attended the October 11 celebration included developer Mark Rabaut, Purple Mountain Hospitality, LLC; Tom Cave, construction consultant; Ted Simms, part owner; David Buttery, Woodland Park City Manager; Sally Riley, City Planner; Mary Jo Larsen, Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Board Chair and Debbie Miller, president, Greater Woodland Park Chamber of Commerce.

“The new Microtel construction project marks a major development for Woodland Park and it took a lot of teamwork to make it a reality,” said Mayor Levy. “We look forward to welcoming even more visitors to stay here in our mountain community and enjoy all that we have to offer as they are vacationing in the Pikes Peak Region and along the Front Range area of Colorado.”

“This is an exciting moment for us,” said Rabaut as the ceremony began. Rabaut owns and operates Purple Mountain Hospitality, LLC and is partnering with his son-in-law, Ted Simms for the new $6 million project. “We have seen the need for more lodging options since the opening of the Charis Bible College.” The two-year ministry training college, founded by Andrew Wommack, hosts seminars and conferences that draw large regional, national and international audiences.

Rabaut expects that the prices for the Microtel rooms will be very similar to those of the Woodland Country Lodge. “Plus, I feel that the two properties will feed off each other very well with guests being able to share the current pool and outdoor patio area and the fitness center to come.”

Debbie Miller, president of the Greater Woodland Park Chamber of Commerce agrees saying that “Woodland Park has seen a steady increase in tourism in recent years. More people have been coming in to the Visitor’s Center and revenue from the City’s lodging tax, a 5.7 percent additional tax applied to a guest’s bill, has risen over the past five years. According to the City’s finance department lodging tax in 2016 amounted to more than $147,000, up from $91,000 in 2012. “There are currently only 101 rooms available in the lodges, hotels and other accommodations within the City,” said Miller.

The 60-room Woodland Country Lodge, built in 1997, is currently the towns largest facility, followed by the Eagle Fire Lodge & Cabins which has 20 rooms. The new Microtel will be about 30,000 square feet, complete with a fitness center and guests will have access to the Woodland Country Lodge’s indoor swimming pool, restaurant and outdoor patio entertainment area.

The general contractor is E. P. Construction and financing is being provided by Central Bank & Trust.
