An Evening with Elton John and Brandi Carlile broadcast on ITV on Saturday night triggered a cascade of reactions from viewers.

With performances of tracks from their album Who Believed in Angels at the London Palladium, audiences were quick to share a recurring critique as soon as the programme started.

One viewer disclosed: "Never ever heard of Brandi Carlisle #EltonJohn".

Another also shared: "Genuinely never heard of Brandi Carlile #EltonJohn."

Meanwhile, someone else questioned: "Whose this woman, I've never heard of her. #EltonJohn", while another said: "Never even heard of Brandi Carlisle, but I'm watching an evening with #EltonJohn anyway."

A particularly harsh critique on Twitter read: "This #EltonJohn thing on #ITV is an absolute car crash.", reports Surrey Live.

Still, there were those who were thrilled by the pairing, with one fan saying: "Brandie's voice is stunning. Love this. Love the album."

Another viewer expressed disappointment over Brandi Carlile’s lack of fame: "Makes me sad how few people know who Brandi Carlile is, I was raised on her music she's great."

Show host Dan Levy highlighted during the event that this occasion marked the first time Elton provided complete access to cameras for the documentation of his album-creation journey, as reported by Express.

Regarding any regrets, Elton himself pondered: "No, not really. I'm glad it's there because it's painful making music sometimes."

Brandi shared insight into the genuine connection to the recording, remarking: "It's really authentic and just a little bizarre."

Captured footage on ITV highlighted Elton John's moments of clear frustration while in the studio, working on the album.

The scene showed Elton dismissively throwing away paper sheets and placing his headphones down aggressively upon his piano.

Elton John openly admitted via a narrated voiceover: "The reality is, I was exhausted, I had a lot of doubt. I was a nightmare. Angry, I was tired, I was irritable."

Despite acknowledging the challenges, Elton talked about his desire for vocal harmony with his co-artist throughout the album's creation.

In a moving moment, ITV viewers observed as Elton shed tears during the performance of a particularly emotional song.

He candidly spoke about the labor needed to reach his emotional depths for the project, saying: "To achieve what I wanted to achieve, I had to really work through the pain, it was a big push. I had to feel, for the first time."

Reflecting further, he confided: "I just lost it. Being emotional on the record, whether it was being angry or crying, I haven't been that for years and years and years."
