Costa Rica players to watch
A once-dominant Costa Rican team has significantly declined due to the aging out of its “Golden Generation.”
Now being a shell of their former selves with past glories a distant memory there are still some flashes of brilliance from this roster.
The two names to know? Manager Miguel Herrera is present, along with veteran goalkeeper Keylor Navas. While it’s not the 2014 cycle, both are a pleasure to watch and will participate, with Navas returning to the national team after Herrera persuaded him to come back following his international retirement last year.
The theme of generational change has surrounded Costa Rica for years, but aside from Navas, it seems to have finally occurred. Sixteen players on the Gold Cup roster were born in the 2000s.
